A Study on Regionalization from the Viewpoint of Health & Medical Care

Abstract
The main aim of this study is to make a clustering of Health Center Regions and to supply the basic data of Health Administration for each.
Twelve ¢¥82 Yearbooks of Statistics published by the Korean Administration Regions(Si, Kun, Do) were used as the source for this study. Because some basic data was missing in some Yearbooks, only 165 out of 218 Health Care Center Regions were selected for analysis. Among many variables in the ¢¥82 Yearbooks of Statistics. 33 variables, thought to be important, were chosen.
These variables were analyzed by the methods of factor analysis & cluster analysis. As a result of the analysis, 5 factors and 8 clusterings were found.
The summarization of the results is as follows.
¥°. The cumulative percent of 5 factors was 66.4%. This was thought as being sufficiently explanative. Thereafter, Factor 1 could be explained as a non-urbanization indicator, Factor 2 a medical supports indicator, Factors 3 & 4 urbanized indicators, and Factor 5 a health measurement indicator.
¥±. By cluster analysis, 8 clusterings were formulated. The characteristics of the first clustering are related with regions of high medical supports and low urbanization, the second clustering regions of non-urbanization; third clustering, regions of low health state; fourth clustering. regions of middle urbanization; fifth clustering, regions of high urbanization; sixth clustering. regions of low medical supports and high health state; and eighth clustering, regions of high medical supports and low health state.
